Delta Waterfowl Receives Grants from Wildlife Habitat Canada

Funds will support duck production and hunter recruitment programs

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA — Wildlife Habitat Canada has once again contributed $105,000 in grants to Delta Waterfowl in support of two key components of

Delta’s mission to produce ducks, conserve wetlands, and ensure the future of waterfowl hunting in North America.

WHC funding will provide a $70,000 boost to Delta’s HunteR3 programs, while a $35,000 award will support managing Hen Houses in key duck breeding areas on the Canadian prairie and parklands.

“We greatly appreciate these grants from Wildlife Habitat Canada,” said Joel Brice, chief conservation officer for Delta Waterfowl. “The funding will support hunters by boosting duck production through Delta’s proven programs and helping recruit new waterfowl hunters in Canada.”

Deltas HunteR3 programs recruit, retain, and reactivate waterfowl hunters via mentored hunting experiences and educational opportunities. Delta’s First Hunt is the largest waterfowl hunting recruitment program in North America, and the organization’s University Hunting Program mentors college students who are completing a course of study in wildlife conservation. Delta programs introduce participants to waterfowl hunting, teaching then safe and responsible practices. In addition, hunters who might not otherwise have an opportunity to participate in waterfowl hunting are provided with access and hunting and shooting gear.

The second WHC grant helps Delta keep Hen Houses ready for nesting mallards. Hen Houses are designed to increase nest success, and they one of Delta’s most effective tools for adding ducks to every fall flight. By increasing duck production, Delta is ensuring healthy waterfowl populations and creates hunting opportunities.

Wildlife Habitat Canada is a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to conserving wildlife habitat across Canada. Since 1985, Wildlife Habitat Canada has provided over $64 million in grants to more than 1,600 habitat conservation projects. Through funding from the sales of the Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp and Print program, the organization has helped safeguard important ecosystems and countless wild species.
