Marbled Godwit

There are over 50 shorebirds (sandpipers, plovers, and the like) that breed in North America, but most go to the arctic to nest.

Marbled Godwits stay in the prairies to nest in grassland habitats. They are cool large (18 inches tall) shorebirds.

Like most shorebirds, they lay a clutch of 4 eggs and have highly precocial young.  Why 4 eggs? That remains a mystery.
